![]() If I had some extra money to put into it I might get the F&F Edition as an expansion to Overdrive, but unless he is a big fan of the Fast & Furious movies I'd start out with the standard version of the game. I don't know the differences between the F&F Edition app and the standard app, but personally I enjoy Overdrive as a stand-alone game without the movie tie-in. In a move that CEO & Co-founder of Anki, Boris Sofman describes as elevating our robotic battle-racing experience to the next level of entertainment, Anki has teamed up with Universal Brand Development to create an official Anki Overdrive: Fast & Furious Edition. What that means is that if you get him the F&F Edition, he won't be able to use the standard version of the app because upon launch, it asks you to place GroundShock and Skull on the charger. That being said, I believe in order to get past the first screen of either app, you have to have the two starter cars for that respective app (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me). In the standard version of the app, I can see the two F&F cars along with other vehicles that I don't own and screenshots of the F&F app show the regular cars. I do not have the F&F Edition so I can't give a complete picture, but I do know that you can use the F&F cars in the regular version of the game, and vice versa. Hope that helps! First ever comment on Reddit BTW Conversely the F&F cars, while attractive, have features which are more derivative of the original Overdrive cars. ![]() Skull is also fairly fast and, as you level-up, has the most powerful "tap to fire" weapon in the franchise and the most useful "land mine" style weapon as well. ![]() I will say that the starter kit cars are two of the favorite cars in my family Groundshock is very fast and is the only car in the whole franchise which has a powerful "just hold the button down" weapon that fires in all directions. But it will continue to go on sale again too Anki's big sales have traditionally been around Christmas and Easter. Summary, This toy is great for kids and adults alike. What is truly the unique content of the original starter set are the two supercars "Skull" and "Groundshock" which, with the starter kit discounted right now ($114.99), and compared to the regular price of a supercar ($49.99) plus the track pieces you get, if you bought it now it would be just a future expansion bundle at a nice value. No searching for out of control cars under furniture like the old days. So if you are starting from scratch, you get more "stuff" if you start with the F&F set. Conversely, the F&F game has the four extra commanders from the movie and the "hack" track piece while also including the current Overdrive commanders (after you defeat the movie ones) and support for all of the same game modes. What is truly the unique content of the original starter set are the two supercars 'Skull' and 'Groundshock' which, with the starter kit discounted right now (114.99), and compared to the regular price of a supercar (49.99) plus the track pieces you get. Apart from some specific AI-Commander+Challenge combinations, there is nothing in the original game that isn't part of the F&F game. So if you are starting from scratch, you get more 'stuff' if you start with the F&F set.
